Benefits
• Liability Insurance - Each student member receives one million dollars in insurance liability
• State Conferences - Two state conferences provide opportunities for pre-professional development through a variety of sessions related to early childhood through secondary majors and costs only $65 to attend (including all meals, materials, and a hotel room of four members).
•Student Scholarships - The SP awards $1000 scholarships to members each year, and the application is relatively easy to complete.
•Mini-Resumes - During second semester, our program compiles a CD ROM of “mini-resumes” of graduating members which is then sent to every school district in the state of Illinois. Many students receive calls, interviews, and even job offers because of their use of the mini-resumes.
•$20 Rebate - A $20 rebate for every year of SP membership is issued to members when they enter the profession and become professional members of the IEA.
• Professional Publications - The IEA Advocate and the NEA Today magazines are sent to student members. These are the same informational magazines sent to professional members and serve as resources for the latest issues in education.
•Grants- Students can develop CLASS grants to be implemented in area schools and communities. Students may apply for up to $1000 for a specific project.
• Workshops - Campus chapters throughout the state hold workshops during the year which are open to all SP members for further pre-professional development.
•Studentspeak- The SP publishes the Studentspeak newsletter several times a year to keep students updated on conferences, workshops, scholarships, and issues in education that will affect current and graduating student members.
• Mentoring Program - Student members who wish to participate are paired with a retired teacher to allow those interested to develop a mentoring relationship around education.
